Mustangs Lose In Overtime At Baylor

WACO, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime defeat at Baylor Sunday night. With the loss, SMU dropped to 1-1, while Baylor improved to 2-2.

The Bears ended the match, and a nearly 90-minute scoreless stretch after SMU tied the score early, with a fortunate goal in the 99th minute. Playing up the field, Baylor goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt launched the ball into the SMU box. Lorelai Stamrood held possession until Haven Terry managed to get it to the back of the net.

It was the first goal since the 11th minute when SMU answered Baylor's opening goal. Freshman Elisabeth Tse scored her first collegiate goal, using her left foot to direct a cross into the left side of the net. Wayny Balata received a throw-in on the right edge of the 18-yard box from the right sideline. She turned and sent the ball across to find Tse, earning her second assist of the season.

The SMU answer came just a minute after the Bears started the scoring in the 10th minute off a corner kick. Mackenzie Anthony beat the outstretched hand of Samantha Estrada to the ball, heading it into the goal.

SMU plays its next game Monday, Sept. 6, at Denver at 3 p.m. CT.
