Mustangs Win UTA Gerald Richey Invite, Eckenroth Victorious In 5k Race
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (SMU) – SMU Cross Country won the UTA Gerald Richey Invite at Lynn Creek Park on Saturday. Cayla Eckenroth led the Mustangs, winning the 5k race in 17:44.2. All 10 Mustangs in the race finished in the top 20 of the 51-person field.
The Mustangs totaled 22 points with five finishers the top seven. Eckenroth led the way, followed by Kaitlyn Gearin in third, Mia Olsen in fifth, Maddie Hulcy in sixth and Kendall Saeger in seventh.
SMU finished ahead of the host, UTA (55 points), and regional opponents North Texas (3rd, 96), TCU (4th, 97) and Tarleton State (5th, 126).
The Mustangs' next race is the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on September 18.
