SMU Defeats Rice For Third Straight Win

HOUSTON (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team defeated [RV] Rice, 1-0, for its third straight win and second straight clean sheet. It was also the Mustangs second straight win against a team receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.

The difference in the match came in the 79th minute when SMU was awarded a penalty kick. Courtney Sebazco calmly placed the shot in the left side of the net for the score. It was her team-leading third goal of the season.

Rice was unable to find a goal despite outshooting SMU, 16-15, as Tatum Sutherland (5) and Samantha Estrada (3) combined for eight saves.

The Mustangs nearly opened the scoring with 10 minutes left in the first half when Alina Khan's shot hit the crossbar. SMU placed a total of five shots on goal in the match.

SMU plays its next two matches at home, starting Thursday against San Francisco at the Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium at 7 p.m.
