Mustangs Ranked No. 24 In United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll

Story LinksKANSAS CITY, Mo. (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team is ranked No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll after wins against three teams receiving votes in last week's poll.

The Mustangs defeated previously unbeaten Denver, 4-2, before 1-0 wins against Oklahoma State and at Rice. SMU is 4-1 this season, 2-0 at home, and the only loss came in overtime at Baylor.

Courtney Sebazco leads the team in scoring with three of SMU's nine goals. The senior is tied for sixth overall in the American Athletic Conference, one off the league lead, and ranks second with 0.60 goals per match.

Sebazco, Payton Doiron and Tatum Sutherland each earned weekly awards from the conference after the three victories. Sutherland had 10 saves against Oklahoma State, the most by a Mustang since Oct. 25, 2015. Doiron scored the gamewinner against the Cowgirls, and Sebazco scored a goal with two assists.

SMU is ranked for the first time since being ranked No. 22 on Oct. 1, 2019, which is also the last time both the men's team (No. 18 this week) and the women's team were ranked in the same week.

The Mustangs host San Francisco Thursday at 7 p.m. before taking on Oklahoma at home Sunday at the Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.
