FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – No. 3 SMU claimed its first win in Fort Worth since the 2016 season as they defeated No. 6 TCU by a final score of 11-9 on Friday afternoon at Diamond Creek Ranch.

The Mustangs (2-1, 1-1 ECAC) collected wins in both Jumping Seat events over the Frogs (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) and three SMU riders were named Most Outstanding Performers (MOP).

Competition started strong for SMU as the team claimed four of the five possible points in Fences. Junior Alex Pielet tallied the event's highest score with an 85 en route to the MOP honor. Freshman Elli Yeager won her first collegiate point with an 80 to top her TCU opponent by nine points. Seniors Devin Seek and Olivia Woodson both won their points with scores of 79.

Over on the Western side, the Mustangs won two Reining points. An event-high of 70.5 from sophomore Chalyce Head won the first point before freshman Maria Richards made her collegiate debut and won her point 67-65.5. Juniors Dani Latimer and Taylor Zimmerman were both defeated by just 0.5 points as the Frogs claimed the event-win, 3-2.

SMU entered the halfway point of the meet with a 6-4 lead over TCU with Flat and Horsemanship still remaining.

The Mustangs kept things up during the second half of action as they secured a 3-2 win in Flat. Senior Madigan Eppink won the first point for SMU in the event with a 77 over her opponent's 70. The next two points came from sophomore Katy Merchant and junior Miranda Seade as Merchant posted an impressive MOP-winning score of 87.5 and Seade tallied an 81.5.

The day wrapped up with Horsemanship, where SMU claimed two points. Sophomore Nya Kearns won the event's first with a score of 78 before senior Mallory Vroegh posted an event-high 79 over her TCU opponent's 71.5 to earn her the MOP honor.

The victory marked SMU's first win on the road against TCU since Sept. 23, 2016 when the Mustangs won 9-8. The two will meet again later this season on Feb. 5 at the Dallas Equestrian Center.

Next up, No. 3 SMU opens its home slate on Saturday, Oct. 16 when they host No. 1 Auburn at the Dallas Equestrian Center. Action is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CT.
