Grobler Named AAC Swimmer Of The Week
IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) – Gabi Grobler was named the season's first American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.
Grobler helped lead the Mustangs at the SMU Classic, which featured five teams that finished in the top 25 last season, posting a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Her 1:59.12 was good for her first NCAA B Cut of the season and is a career best. The time is sixth on SMU's all-time top performer list.
She competed in three other A Finals at the event, placing fourth in the 100 back, fifth in the 200 back and sixth in the 100 breast. All times lead the conference after the season-opening event.
This is the third straight season that Grobler has posted an NCAA Standard, doing so in the 200 IM each year. Last season, she earned all-conference honors in the 200 IM and as part of the 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. Grobler is also on SMU top-10 lists in the 100 back and 200 back.
The Mustangs return to action Friday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. when they face Metroplex rival TCU on the road.
