DALLAS (SMU) – No. 24 SMU dropped its match against UCF by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday night as the two faced off for the first of two times this season.

The Knights (7-4-0, 5-1-0 AAC) outshot the Mustangs (6-3-2, 3-3-0 AAC) 19-11 throughout the night, including a 14-5 difference in shots on goal.

SMU broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute after earning a corner kick that was taken by Knut Ahlander. The midfielder's ball found Thomas Haney's head in the box, which was saved before defender Brandon Terwege put the rebound into the back of the net.

The Mustangs' 1-0 advantage held through the remainder of the first half as the good guys headed into the break with the lead.

Both teams came out of the break hot as the two fought for shots during the first 10 minutes. UCF took advantage in the 59th minute when Caleb Franke knotted the game at 1-1.

After another contentious 10 minutes, Knights midfielder Mauricio Villalobos broke the tie on a shot that curled into the goal thanks to an assist from Anderson Rosa.
