SMU Falls To UCF In Annual Pink Match

DALLAS, Texas (SMU) – SMU and UCF battled it out on Friday evening inside Moody Coliseum. The Knights won in three sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-17), but the Mustangs made UCF earn it. This match included 27 tie scores and 11 lead changes. UCF (15-6, 8-1 AAC) hit .369 and had a solid evening from McKenna Melville who finished with 20 kills and 10 digs. Hannah Jacobs led SMU with 12 kills. Bria' Merchant held tough on the back line digging up 14 balls for the Mustangs while Jadyn Bauss finished with a career-high four service aces.

The SMU volleyball team hosted its annual Pink Match game. SMU is partnering with the American Cancer Society to put on this terrific event. Participants can bid on SMU game-worn jerseys and also give to a good cause. The starting bid price is $100 and the auction will open on Sunday, October 24 at 12:00 pm. The auction will run through Wednesday, October 27. All proceeds will be gifted to the American Cancer Society - South Region - Dallas.

UCF began the match with a 7-3 lead. Bauss later gave SMU (9-10, 5-4 AAC) back the momentum with consecutive aces which allowed the Mustangs to get within one point (7-6). The Knights regained the lead, but then battled it out. Five ties down the stretch led both teams to 20-20. UCF then gained two points off back-to-back kills from McKenna Melville. The Mustangs pulled to within a point after a big kill from Rachel Woulfe, but the Knights outlasted SMU in the opening set.

Set two included 13 ties as both teams battled it out once again. Tied at 15, SMU was able to force a UCF timeout after a kill from Alex Glover and an error by the Knights. Knotted at 22, UCF was able to regain the lead after a kill from Claudia Dillion. Bauss kept SMU close with a big swing and a kill, but the Knights converted set point off an attack error.

UCF grabbed a 13-12 advantage in the third set. SMU battled back and stayed right with the Knights midway through the set (16-15). A 6-0 UCF scoring run pushed the Knights out to a marginal lead (22-15). UCF then took three of the final four points to take the match.
