Mustangs Take Down ECU 3-1 On Sunday

DALLAS, Texas (SMU) – SMU beat ECU in four sets (20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon inside Moody Coliseum. During today's match Lily Heim secured her 3,000th career assist, while Hannah Jacobs earned her way into the 1,000 kills club. Jacobs led SMU with 16 kills, while Heim dished out 26 assists.

The Mustangs grabbed 61 kills, 75 digs, and 14 block assists against the Pirates. Jadyn Bauss secured her fifth double-double on the season with 10 kills and 18 digs. Bria' Merchant led the Mustangs defensively with 23 digs.

ECU took the opening set after hitting .387 with 13 kills. Sydney Kleinman led the Pirates with five kills to begin the match. SMU later used a 6-1 run to find a 10-5 lead in the second set. The Mustangs pushed this lead all the way out to 19-11 and were able to knot the match up at one set a piece. Kaylyn Winkler and Jacobs each notched a solo block to help SMU get past ECU in that set.

The Mustangs once again took a large lead in the third set (11-4). ECU climbed back into the match and cut the SMU lead down to four twice, but the Mustangs had a balanced attack up front to take the 2-1 lead. The fourth set was much tighter the whole way through. There were 18 ties in the set as both teams traded points. SMU went up 19-17 after two big kills from Jacobs and Winker. ECU later regained the lead after a 3-0 scoring run (20-19) to force a SMU timeout. SMU then finished out the set scoring five points in-a-row with four attack errors by ECU coming in that stretch.

Sydney Kleinman led the Pirates with 15 kills. Defensively, Bri Wood paced the Pirates with 16 digs.
