Mustangs Defeat New Mexico State In Dominating Fashion

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's swimming and diving came away with its second straight dual win of the season after 161-77 sweep over New Mexico State on Friday night at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

The victory improved the Mustangs' dual record to 2-0 on the young season. Three swimmers posted two event wins each.

Ilektra Lebl won a pair of events, opening individual scoring with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 10:09.63. She followed it up by pacing the field with a time of 4:57.48 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Gabi Grobler continued to lead the team in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a 2:02.50 for the win. She was also the winner in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:19.09.

Johanna Gudmundsdottir also doubled for the Ponies, picking up her wins in the 50-yard freestyle (23.63) and the 100-yard freestyle (51.36).

SMU also picked up top points from Indra Vandenbussche (200 free, 1:51.75), Olivia Grossklaus (200 fly, 2:00.44) and Jenna Watson (200 back, 2:05.05).

Johanna Holloway and Nicole Stambo split diving wins to lead the event, with Holloway coming away with the win on 3 meter (303.83) and Stambo on 1 meter (290.63). Both divers stayed above the NCAA Zone qualifying score on 3 meter, while Stambo once again hit the mark on 1 meter.

In relay action, Grobler, Maddy Lewis, Valentina Becerra and Gudmundsdottir opened the event with a 200-yard medley relay win (1:43.47), and Alex Stevens, Vandenbussche, Tiffanie Ruan and Lebl won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:26.68) to close the evening.

SMU is back in action Nov. 18-20 for the SMU Invite, which also features Fresno State, Hawaii and Drury.
