From SMUMustangs.com:

No. 17 SMU Hosts No. 20 Texas In NCAA Tournament First Round Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS (SMU/NCAA) – The SMU women's soccer team will host an NCAA Tournament first-round match after finishing the season with an 11-4-2 record overall. The Mustangs are ranked No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll and No. 25 in the NCAA Women's Soccer RPI.

SMU is scheduled to host No. 20 Texas in the NCAA Tournament first round Sunday at 1 p.m. at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.

Second-team all-conference selection Wayny Balata leads the team with five goals, while first-team honoree Courtney Sebazco has four goals and four assists. Graduate transfer Lindsey Whitmore has a team-high five assists with four goals.

The Mustangs finished 4-2-2 in the American Athletic Conference and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament. SMU posted a six-match win streak during the season, which included five consecutive shutouts.

SMU is playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. This is the 14th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Mustangs, who advanced to the College Cup in 1995.

Head coach Chris Petrucelli is taking a team to the postseason for the 18th time. Ranked seventh among active head coaches with 427 career wins, Petrucelli won a national championship as head coach at Notre Dame in 1995.

From the Longhorns' perspective (via texassports.com):

AUSTIN, Texas – According to a Monday announcement from the NCAA, No. 20 Texas soccer (11-4-6) will begin its 15th-overall visit to the NCAA Tournament by traveling to Dallas, Texas, to battle No. 17 SMU (11-4-2) at Washburn Soccer Stadium on Sun., Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. CT.

Texas will be venturing out on the road for the second straight time in NCAA Tournament First Round action after making a trip to Texas A&M back to open the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

“We’re really excited to start a new season and for our squad to be fresh and ready to go,” Texas head soccer coach Angela Kelly said. “This is a great match-up for our player families from the Dallas area. It’s a little payback for all the hours and effort they’ve spent over the years supporting our team by driving up-and-down I-35. This time they can stay at home and relax while we make the drive up to them. There’s no question that they’ll be out in full force supporting us at SMU on Sunday.

“SMU has had a tremendous season. Chris (Petrucelli) is a tremendous coach, and he and his staff do a wonderful job. I have a ton of respect for him for the work he did here at the University of Texas and for what he’s accomplished over the past decade at SMU. We have a lot of prep work to do, but we’ll make sure first-and-foremost that our players are rested, recovered and emotionally excited to start this new portion of the season.”

Sunday’s match-up will mark the ninth all-time meeting between the two programs with SMU holding a 5-1-2 advantage. The last time the two teams met overall was in Austin back on Aug. 26, 2005, a 1-0 Texas victory under the guidance of former Texas and current SMU head coach Chris Petrucelli.

If the Horns advance through this year’s opening round match-up, the Burnt Orange & White would likely travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to face the winner of No. 1-national seed Florida State (16-1-2) and South Alabama (12-4-3) in NCAA Second Round action.

Great to watch the game. The game was great, the crowd was terrific and the campus looked as beautiful as always. Good luck in round 2.
