Women's swimming/diving splits dual meets in Houston

Mustangs Win Seven Events In Double Dual Split

HOUSTON (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team split Friday afternoon's dual in Houston, defeating Rice, 164-98, and falling to Houston, 167-118. The Mustangs are now 3-1 in dual action this season.

Ilektra Lebl and Olivia Grossklaus picked up a pair of event wins for SMU before the first break, with Lebl pacing the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:14.75 and Grossklaus covering the 200-yard butterfly distance in 2:00.53. Lebl earned her second victory of the afternoon in the 500-yard freestyle, touching in 4:58.69.

After finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke, Gabi Grobler came out after the break to win the 200 in a time of 2:03.24. Valentina Becerra also improved in her second butterfly race of the day, clocking in at 55.05 to win the 100 distance.

Grobler (2:04.30) led a Mustang sweep in the 200-yard individual medley to close out individual events. Jenna Watson (2:05.20) touched second, while Lebl (2:05.26) was third.

The 200-yard breaststroke went to Watson in a time of 2:19.62. Watson also had a strong showing in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing just off her career best at 1:51.96 for runner-up honors.

Both relays finished second at the event with Grobler, Maddy Lewis, Becerra and Johanna Gudmundsdottir finishing the 200-yard medley relay in 1:44.81 and Gudmundsdottir, Indra Vandenbussche, Tiffanie Ruan and Becerra clocking a 1:35.57 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Houston was the only school at the event to score divers.

The Mustangs are back in action next weekend when they host North Texas on Friday and Tulane on Saturday. Both events will be available on PonyUp TV.
