Mustangs Pick Up AAC Dual Win Over Tulane

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU completed a weekend dual sweep with a 182-116 win over American Athletic Conference opponent Tulane on Saturday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium. The Mustangs won 12 of 16 events at the meet.

Adding to Friday's win over North Texas, SMU is now 5-1 in dual action this season, matching its highest win total since the 2011-12 season when the Mustangs went 5-2.

Three Mustangs picked up a pair of victories in swimming events, as Johanna Gudmundsdottir, Jenna Watson and Ilektra Lebl led the team.

Gudmundsdottir was the winner in both the 50- (23.86) and 100-yard freestyle (52.00), leading a sweep of both for SMU. Watson's versatility got her wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.79) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.41). Lebl came on late in the event and paced the field in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.44) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:25.68).

The Mustangs continue to provide strong performances in butterfly events, with Valentina Becerra (100, 56.03) and Olivia Grossklaus (200, 2:03.39) teaming up for the sweep.

Nicole Stambo and Johanna Holloway combined to sweep diving for the second time this weekend. Stambo took three meter with an NCAA Zone qualifying 284.85, while Holloway registered a 255.35 to win 1 meter.

SMU won both relays at the event, opening with a victory from Kate Janzen, Gabi Grobler, Becerra and Indra Vandenbussche in the 400-yard medley relay (3:48.54). Alex Stevens, Vandenbussche, Tiffanie Ruan and Gudmundsdottir finished the day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:34.74).

The Mustangs are back in action Friday, Jan. 28 for a 5 p.m. dual at No. 24 Texas A&M. The event will be streamed on the SEC Network+.

Back-to-back Dual Meet wins against North Texas and Tulane (both green :D) is nice.

We will need to take on greater challenges in the future at Conference and Nationals, where we need to make a bigger impression.
