DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team turned in a runner-up finish and Nicole Stambo was named the event's Most Outstanding Diver at the 2022 American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.

SMU finished with 866 points in the team standings, just .5 behind champion Houston at 866.5. Tulane finished third at 641, Cincinnati was fourth at 571 and ECU fifth at 236.5.

After nine event titles this season, the Mustangs have now won 43 individual titles and 17 relay titles in The American. This season also saw SMU earn 19 All-AAC honors.

Stambo led all divers with a pair of titles and a top-five finish. This is the second consecutive year a Mustang has earned Most Outstanding Diver honors with Johanna Holloway picking up accolades in 2021.

Gabi Grobler finished second in the swimming high-point standings with 56.0, while Frederica Kizek was also in the top-5, tied for fourth with 48.0. Overall, the Mustangs had the most swimmers in the top-10 of high-point scoring with four, adding Johanna Gudmundsdottir (8th, 46) and Ilektra Lebl (T9th, 45). On the diving side, SMU had two of the top three in diving with Stambo posting 54.0 and Holloway 46.0.

Kizek opened the evening with a career performance in the 1,650-yard freestyle, winning the Mustangs' first American championship in the event. The junior stayed under the NCAA B cut at 16:27.69 as the eighth fastest performer all-time at SMU, and her 9:56.07 1,000 split moved her up to sixth all-time for the Mustangs. It was the first conference title overall for the Mustangs in the event since Alice McCall won in 2011.

Ilektra Lebl posted her second top-five finish of the week, placing fourth in the mile with a time of 16:45.99, while Annabelle Corcoran came out of the first heat to finish eighth at 16:57.19.

Coming in second was Holloway with a season-best 273.50. Both divers are qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships in the event. Jaclynn Fowler also scored points for the Mustangs on platform, finishing 11th.
