Mustangs Fall 4-3 To Tulsa In AAC Semifinal Match

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – The second-seeded SMU women's tennis team's bid for an American Athletic Conference Tournament title ended on Thursday, as the Mustangs fell 4-3 to three-seed Tulsa.

The Mustangs claimed their third-consecutive doubles point, earned on courts two and three by duos Nicole Petchey/Claudia Bartolome and Lexi Keberle/Lana Mavor.

Petchey and Bartolome struck first, taking a 6-3 win on court three over Lily Hutchings/Ana Naranjo Martinez, winning their third straight and third as a pair this season.

Keberle/Mavor delivered the doubles-clinching win, defeating Laia Conde Montfort/Shura Poppe, 6-4, earning their seventh-consecutive win and notching a team-best eleventh win as a pair in dual doubles.

Junior Hadley Doyle defeated Poppe 6-2 6-4 on line two. Doyle closed dual play with a 9-7 record, including three-straight wins entering the postseason.

After falling 6-4 in her opening set against Maria Berlanga, Nylander battled through second and third-set victories to claim her eleventh win of the dual season. The second set fell to a 6-6 tiebreak, Which Nylander claimed 7-3, forcing the deciding set. In the third, Nylander and Berlanga fought to 5-4, before Nylander secured the third set, and the win. Nylander closed dual play with five-consecutive wins, and an 11-9 dual singles record.
