Mustangs’ Season Comes To A Close With Sixth-Place Finish At Bryan Regional

BRYAN, Texas (SMU) – SMU men's golf played to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Bryan Regional, bringing its 2021-22 campaign to a close.

Noah Goodwin, in the hunt for the single individual qualifier awarded to the low individual on a non-qualifying team at each regional, opened the round tied for fourth place, and was tied for first coming out of the turn with eventual medalist Joe Highsmith of Pepperdine. Goodwin ended the day at two-over and tied for fifth at three-under overall.

Goodwin, along with Canon Claycomb (Alabama), Carson Berry (Oregon State), and Aymeric Tassot (TCU), entered a playoff to determine the individual qualifier. Goodwin and Berry advanced to a second hole, where Berry ultimately prevailed.

Goodwin's one-under (3.97 avg.) on par fours was the third-best of the 75-player field. The senior's 38 pars were the second most of the field, with 39 being the high mark.

Sophomore Nathan Petronzio hit par on 15 holes through the final round and finished the final day at three-over, with an overall score of six-over.

Holden Wisener tied his tournament-low round, shooting a two-over 74 through the final round. The sophomore notched two birdies through the back nine to finish the day at one-over.

Justin Thompson carded his lowest round of the tournament with a two-over 74. The senior ended the final round of his Mustang career with a clean sheet through the back nine which included birdies on 11 and 18.

Arizona, defending national champion Pepperdine, Texas A&M, Georgia, and Kansas each claimed team bids to the NCAA Championship with top-five respective finishes. Pepperdine's Highsmith claimed the individual title.
