Women’s Soccer Opens 2022 Season Ranked 23rd In United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (United Soccer Coaches/SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team will open its 2022 season ranked 23rd nationally in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, the association announced on Tuesday.

The Mustangs fall in as one of two American Athletic Conference programs to open the season in the top-25, with Memphis earning a 22nd-place ranking.

SMU women's soccer, set to make its debut under inaugural head coach Nicole Nelson on Aug. 18 against Rice at Washburne Stadium, closed its 2021 season with a 12-5-2 record and its first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2006 -- a 2-0 shutout against No. 21 Texas in Dallas.

United Soccer Coaches college rankings, released every Tuesday during the regular season, are an indicator of the week-to-week status of qualified programs. To be eligible for consideration in United Soccer Coaches college rankings, a school must be a member of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program.
