Mustangs Fall At Stanford

STANFORD, CALIF. (SMU) – SMU men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in a 3-1 final at the Laird Q. Cagan Stadium on Sunday night against Stanford.

Stanford's Carlo Agostinelli scored the first goal of the match in the 16th minute after an SMU turnover led him to a one-on-one shot attempt.

Fletcher Bank extended Stanford's lead after heading one in on the left side of the goal in the 21st minute. Just before the halftime break, Liam Doyle added the third point of the night for the Cardinal, scoring on a penalty kick.

The Mustangs settled in the match during the second half but ultimately fell short. Knut Ahlander converted a penalty kick in the bottom right of the net to get the Mustangs on the board in the 75th minute.

SMU is back in action on Friday, Sep. 2, as they take on Central Arkansas at the Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium in Dallas at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

We're talented but really young. Graduated a lot of studs (Costa, Ndoye, Simonsen, etc.)
Growing pains are part of it this year.
