No. 21 SMU Gets Fifth Shutout Of The Season In 1-0 Win At Temple

PHILADELPHIA (SMU) – No. 21 SMU got a goal from Alina Khan in the 13th minute, and went on to a 1-0 win over Temple at the Temple Sports Complex on Thursday.

Khan scored her first goal of the season in the 13th minute of the match. Sammy Nieves shot went right at Temple goalkeeper Kyla Burns, but Khan got to the ball first and redirected it into the center of the goal. Khan became the eighth Mustang (6-1-3, 1-1 AAC) to score this season. It was a team-leading fourth assist of the season for Nieves.

Samantha Estrada made four saves in the game, including a critical one on a shot by Temple's Carly Steinberg in the 54th minute.

The Mustangs put six of nine shots on goal in the game as no one from SMU had more than one shot in the match. Temple (0-4-4, 0-2) managed five shots, with four on goal.

It was the second straight shutout for SMU, following up a 1-0 win over Baylor on Sunday. It is the fifth shutout of the season for the Mustangs as Estrada recorded her second solo shutout of the year.

The Mustangs host USF in American Athletic Conference action next Thursday at 7 p.m.
