Women's soccer suffers first road loss of 2022

SMU Falls 1-0 At UCF, First Road Loss Of The Season

ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) – SMU dropped a road match for the first time this season, falling 1-0 at UCF at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex on Sunday. The Mustangs are now 1-1-4 away from Dallas this season.

Kristen Scott put UCF (4-2-4, 2-0-1 AAC) on the board in the 36th minute with what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

The Mustangs (6-3-4, 1-3-1 AAC) had 11 shots in the match with nine of those in the second half. Peyton Annen had a shot that went just left of the post off a corner kick in the 55th minute. The Mustangs followed with three corner kicks in the 61st minute with the UCF defense managing to block shot attempts on two of the three corners. Courtney Sebazco had a shot go just over the top of the frame in the 77th minute. Jewel Boland also just missed high in the 84th minute.

SMU had an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks in the match and an 11-10 edge in shots.

The SMU defense has allowed just nine goals this season, holding opponents to one or zero scores in 12 of 13 matches this season. Tatum Sutherland started in goalkeeper and had four saves.

The Mustangs host Cincinnati at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium next Sunday at 1 p.m.
