Women's soccer shuts out Tulsa, 2-0, on the road

SMU Blanks Tulsa 2-0 Sunday Afternoon

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – SMU women's soccer improved to 7-3-5 on the season with a 2-0 road victory over Tulsa Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.

SMU earned its sixth clean sheet of the year. The Mustang defense has allowed just 11 goals this season, holding opponents to one or no scores in 13 of their 15 matches.

Wayny Balata put the Mustangs on the board in the 41st minute, converting on a penalty kick opportunity. The score marked Balata's second goal of the season.

Julissa Cisneros extended SMU's lead in the 51st minute when she cashed in on a shot in the left side of the net set up by Abby Dermott to earn the senior's team-high seventh goal of the season.

SMU shot 15 times, including eight on goal. Tatum Sutherland was in goal for the Mustangs, recording two saves on the day and earning a shutout.

The Mustangs host Memphis in the regular-season finale on Thursday at 7 p.m. SMU's seniors Jewel Boland, Julissa Cisneros, Katina Tsapos and Courtney Sebazco will be honored in a postgame ceremony at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.

Always good to get conference wins - especially on the road.

Hope that is a blueprint for what we see Saturday.
