Mustangs Get Winner With 15 Seconds Left In 2-1 Win Over Memphis

DALLAS (SMU) – Julissa Cisneros scored with 15 seconds left for a 2-1 win over Memphis on senior night at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium. It was another senior, Jewel Boland, that evened the match in the 80th minute when she willed the ball into the net.

SMU managed two goals on five shots in the match. Wayny Balata, Sammy Nieves, Kaya Lee and Tori Peterson all had assists for the Mustangs.

Mya Jones put Memphis (7-5-4, 3-2-3 AAC) on the board in the 12th minute as the Tigers held the lead until the 80th minute.

Tatum Sutherland had four saves for SMU, allowing just the one goal.

The Mustangs have allowed one or zero goals in 14 of 16 matches this season. They are 6-2-1 at home this season and 14-3-2 at home the past two seasons.

Thursday's match was Senior Day for the Mustangs (8-3-5, 3-3-2 AAC). Boland, Cisneros, Alina Khan, Katina Tsapos and Courtney Sebazco were honored in a postgame ceremony.

The Mustangs will be the No. 6 seed in the in the American Athletic Conference Championship. SMU opens with a quarterfinal matchup at No. 3 seed Cincinnati on Sunday.

Both of the goals were really impressive.
