SETTING THE SCENE
• The Mustangs face Memphis in the American Athletic Conference championship match on Sunday in Orlando. The winner receives the AAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. SMU advanced with a 5-0 win over USF in the semifinal on Thursday.
• SMU tied for 5th in the final AAC standings with the No. 2 through No. 6 seeds being separated by just 4 points.
• SMU won 2-1 vs Memphis in the first meeting on Oct. 27. SMU rallied from down 1-0 in the last 10 minutes with Julissa Cisneros scoring the winner with 15 seconds left on SMU's senior night.
• SMU is 10-3-5 after the 5-0 win vs USF. SMU has won four straight heading into the championship matchup.
• The SMU defense has allowed just 12 goals this season, holding opponents to one or zero scores in 16 of 18 matches. SMU has 8 shutouts, including 3 of the past 4 games.
• The Mustangs are 4-1-4 away from home this season.

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
• SMU is going for its eighth conference tournament title. The last was in 2004. SMU last made the AAC final in 2016. SMU has also claimed 11 regular season crowns with the last in 2006.

AAC HONORS
• Courtney Sebazco was named AAC Midfielder of the Year. Jewel Boland and Julissa Cisneros also earned All-AAC Second-Team honors and Peyton Annen was selected to the AAC All-Rookie Team.

AAC LEADERS
• SMU had the most AAC Weekly Honors this season with 16 (UCF 13). The Mustangs have 5 Player of the Week selections, a Rookie of the Week and 10 honor roll spots.
• SMU leads the AAC in save percentage (.857, 13th NCAA) and goals against average (.667, 25th NCAA). Julissa Cisneros is second the AAC with 8 goals and 3 game-winning goals. Sammy Nieves leads the AAC with 6 assists.

LEADING MUSTANGS
• Senior Courtney Sebazco - MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree and AAC Midfielder of the Year - has four goals and three assists. She was AAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season.
• Julissa Cisneros leads SMU with 8 goals and Sammy Nieves has 3 goals and an AAC-high 6 assists. Cisneros was All-AAC second team in addition to an AAC Offensive Player of the week and three AAC Weekly Honor Roll nods.
• Goalkeeper Samantha Estrada, has 35 saves and allowed four goals in 701 minutes. She has been AAC GK of the Week once and has two AAC Weekly Honor Roll nods. Tatum Sutherland has allowed eight goals in 898 minutes and been AAC Goalkeeper of the Week once. They have combined for eight shutouts.

BALANCED SCORING
• Nine Mustangs have scored at least one goal already this season and 13 have recorded at least one point.

HERMANN TROPHY WATCH LIST
• Courtney Sebazco was named to the preseason Hermann Trophy Watch List.

LAST TIME OUT
• SMU advanced to the AAC championship with a season-high five goals in a 5-0 win over USF in the semifinal on Thursday. Sammy Nieves and Wayny Balata each had two goals in the match. Jewel Boland also scored. Kaya Lee, Julissa Cisneros and Nieves each had an assist.

SERIES HISTORY
• SMU is 6-13-3 against Memphis. The win on senior night was the first versus Memphis since the 2016 AAC Tournament.

UNBEATEN TO START
• SMU's unbeaten streak through the first seven matches was the second-longest unbeaten start for SMU. The only longer streak was the first 24 matches of the 1995 season when the Mustangs finished 23-1-1 and reached the College Cup semifinals.

SMU in 2021
• SMU was 12-5-2 (4-2-2 AAC).
• All 4 AAC wins were shutouts.
• The Mustangs were 8-1-1 at home and 4-4-1 on the road.
• 11 different players scored, with seven hitting the back of the net more than once.

• SMU advanced in the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 win against No. 21 Texas.

IN THE TOP 25
• SMU was ranked in the first seven United Soccer Coaches Top 25 polls. The high this season was No. 15 on Aug. 23 and Aug. 30.
• SMU had been ranked in 17 straight United Soccer Coaches Top 25 polls (last 10 of 2021 and the first sseven of 2022).
• SMU was No. 21 in the final poll last season after being as high as No. 14 twice in 2021.
• SMU was ranked No. 3, the highest ranking in program history, in the final poll at the end of the 1995 season after advancing to the 1995 College Cup, finishing with a 23-1-1 record.

COACHES CORNER
• First-year head coach Nicole Nelson previously spent eight seasons as an Associate Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the Mustangs from 2012-2019 under previous head coach Chris Petrucelli.
• Prior to her time on the Hilltop, Nelson served as head coach at Oklahoma (2007-11), assistant coach under Petrucelli at Texas (2006-07), recruiting coordinator/assistant coach at Baylor (2005), and head coach at Stephen F. Austin (2002-04).

This should be a really good match. Too bad it is taking place in Florda and not a whole lot of people will be there I suspect.
