Mustangs Fall 1-0 In Overtime In AAC Title Match

ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) – Memphis scored the only goal of the match in the 99th as SMU fell 1-0 in overtime in the American Athletic Conference Championship Final at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex on Sunday.

SMU had its best chance to even the match in the 106th minute when Julissa Cisneros put one on frame that Memphis goalkeeper Claire Wyville barely got a hand on to deflect it. The rebound shot by Jewel Boland went just right of the goal. It was one of a team-high four shots for Cisneros.

Taylor Shae gave Memphis (9-5-5) the lead in the 99th minute.

SMU (10-4-5) made a run under first-year head coach Nicole Nelson, reaching the AAC title game for the first time since 2016. The Mustangs entered the final on a four-game win streak.

Memphis outshot SMU 17-7, but the Mustangs allowed just the one goal. SMU has allowed zero or only one goal in 17 of 19 matches this season. Tatum Sutherland had four saves in the match.

The Mustangs were undefeated in regular-season non-conference games with a 5-0-3 record. The NCAA Championship selections will be announced on Monday at 1 p.m. CT.

That was a tough lost. I hope that our non conference schedule gets us in the tourney.
