Mustangs Shut Out USF 3-0

TAMPA, Fla. – SMU corralled South Florida 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-22) in American Athletics Conference action at the Yuengling Center Sunday.

The Mustangs ran off the final three points of game three to complete the sweep Knotted at 22-all after a service error by the Bulls, Kaitlyn Knobbe and Celia Cullen pushed SMU for the final time. Following a Jadyn Bauss kill, Knobbe posted the final marker, securing the 10th straight-set victory of the season.

SMU jumped out to a 9-4 lead and extended it out to 22-14, before holding off a furious run by the Bulls in the opening set. USF ran off five points and closed to within three at 22-19, before kills by Natalie Perdue and Jamison Wheeler handed the guests five set points. After squandering the first two chances, the Bulls gift wrapped the final tally with a service error.

In a nip and tuck affair in the middle game, the Mustangs needed three points to double their margin at two games to none. However, USF appeared poised to even the contest at 1-1, after a 6-1 spurt nudged the home side in front 24-23. After a stoppage in play by SMU, the Bulls committed a trio of miscues, which resulted in a 26-24 triumph by the visitors.

TEAM RECORDS AND SERIES NOTES
SMU improved to 18-8 overall, including 11-3 in The American, while the Bulls fell to 9-15, 3-9.

The Mustangs lead the all-time series 12-4, including 7-2 in Tampa.

SMU won its sixth straight in the series and third straight on USF's court.

USF last win in the series occurred Oct. 26, 2018, its last victory at home over SMU.


TEAM RECORDS AND NOTES
The Mustangs improved to 7-4 in road matches, including 7-1 in conference play.

USF hit .189, the 14th time an SMU opponent failed to hit above .200 this season, including six of the last seven contests.

The 18 wins equals the most by an SMU team since its last 20-win season in 2017.

SMU reached 11 conference wins for the third time since 2017.


INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Sophomore OH Jamison Wheeler tallied 10 kills, seven digs, two service aces and a block.
With her two aces, she increased her season total to 37, moving into ninth on the program's single-season list.

Sophomore OH Natalie Perdue recorded 12 kills, 10 digs, an aced and a block.

Perdue tallied double-digits in kills for the third-straight match and 15th time this season.

Junior S Celia Cullen stuffed the stat sheet with 33 assists, seven digs, two blocks – one solo, two kills and an ace.
She reached double-digits in assists in all but one match this season.

Graduate transfer OPP Marieke van der Mark added nine kills and three blocks.

Senior MB London Austin-Roark totaled four kills and two blocks.

Donning the libero jersey, graduate transfer Tatum Ticknor finished with 10 digs and three assists.

Sophomore MB Kaitlyn Knobbe tallied two kills and two blocks.

Senior MB Alex Glover chipped in two kills, two blocks and an assist.

Freshman OH Jentry Laminrand dropped in an ace, with 10 digs.

Senior OH Jadyn Bauss netted two kills and two digs.

Junior DS Breyann Sands added a dig.

UP NEXT
The Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., when they host the Pirates from East Carolina.
