Top-Ranked Mustangs Rout Delaware State In Record-Breaking Night

DALLAS (SMU)- The highest scoring performance in program history lifted top-ranked SMU to a 19-1 rout of Delaware State Friday afternoon at the Dallas Equestrian Center.

SMU swept three out of the four events on the way to the largest margin of victory in program history at 18 points. Additionally, the Mustangs swept the Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) awards for the second time this season. Emma Engel was crowned the Flat MOP, Chalyce Head earned the Honor in Reining, Megan Waldron claimed the accolade in Horsemanship and Augusta Iwasaki finished off the award sweep in Fences.

The meet started with Flat and Horsemanship occurring simultaneously. The Mustangs dominated both events, winning each by a 5-0 count.

SMU continued its winning ways in Horsemanship, moving to a perfect 3-0 on the year in the event. Alexa Black put the Mustangs on the board with a 76-74.5 victory over Delaware State's Ashley Grasso. Megan Waldron followed with a 78.5-0 win.

Nya Kearns took down Kersten Zehner 75.5-74.5 and Mallory Vroegh defeated Aniela Cortina 77.5-75.5. Lily Anderson completed the event sweep after winning her point 73.5-71.5.

The Mustangs continued their success on the Flat, picking up an event sweep. SMU has won nine of its last 10 Flat rides.

Madigan Eppink's convincing 80-65 victory earned SMU its first event point. Miranda Seade picked up a dominating win over Chloey Prichard 76-51.

Emma Engle and Taylor Madden picked up back-to-back Mustang points. Engel took down Maranda McCarthy 84-66 and Taylor Madden won her ride 77-65. Hensley Humphries finished off the event and first-half shutout with a 74-68 win over Olivia Brown.

The Mustangs picked up where they left off in the second half. SMU's Reining squad earned its second straight event sweep.

Claire Robertson started off the scoring, defeating Estella Estus 72-69.5. Dani Latimer edged out DSU's Aidan Stetzer 71.5-71 to earn a point. Maria Richards earned a convincing 74-68 win and Chalyce Head finished off the event by winning her ride 74.5-72.5.

Elli Yeager scored with an 82-79 win over DSU's Olivia Brown. Alex Pielet dominated her point by an 84-76 margin.

Taylor Madden picked up her second point of the day by scoring an 80, beating out Megan Winborne's score. Freshman Augusta Iwasaki made her Mustang debut in style, winning her point 86-72.
