3 Mustangs earn volleyball All-AAC honors

Trio Garners All-AAC Honors

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU placed three on the All-American Athletic Conference Teams; league officials announced Tuesday. Marieke van der Mark and Jamison Wheeler earned first team honors, while Celia Cullen claimed second-team accolades. It marks the first time since 2019 the SMU placed two on the first team.

After transferring from Baylor, van der Mark tallied 291 kills, 72 digs and 66 blocks as an opposite to cement herself on the team. She hit .293, 10th in AAC and the 17th-highest total in program history.

Wheeler led the Mustangs with 385 kills, 3.41 kills per set, 1,051 attacks and 48 service aces. The 48 aces placed her second on the all-time single-season list in school history, three shy of the record. She ranked second on the team with 292 digs and sixth with 38 blocks.

Celia Cullen, a junior transfer from Michigan State handed out 1,148 assists in her first season in Dallas, finishing in the Mustang annals for assists in a campaign. She ranked second in the league in assists and 34th in the country, while her 10.16 assists per set placed second in the conference and 59th in Division I.

The Mustangs collected the third most selections after a third-place finish in The American under first year Head Coach Sam Erger, posting a 22-10 record, including 15-5 against conference foes.
