Lee Breaks Program Record At Icon Invitational

HUMBLE, Texas (SMU) - Mackenzie Lee set a new program record with a nine-under par score on day one of the Icon Invitational. As a team, the Mustangs moved up in the second round to finish the day in 10th place.

Coming off a one-under score in round one, Lee's score of nine-under in round two broke the SMU record originally set by Melanie White (2012) and Yunxuan (Michelle) Zhang (2022) by two entire strokes. Lee shot 10 birdies in the round including a string of four birdies in five holes. Her only blemish was a bogey on her 16th hole (No. 1) which she followed up with two straight birdies to close the round at nine-under par.

As a team, the Mustangs shot three-over in round one to sit in 12th place at the break. Led by low rounds from Lee and Ellie Szeryk, SMU shot the lowest round in program history with a 12-under score in round two.

After a two-over round one, Szeryk shot up the leaderboard in round two with a round of five-under. Szeryk jumped 32 spots and into a share of 25th place.

Ashley Chow had a strong one-under round two to aid in the Mustangs record-setting round. Chow holds a share of 47th place. Zhang shot even par in round one and followed that up with a three over in round two. She sits in a tie for 55th place. Lauren Miller carded a 74 in round one followed by a 78 in the second round to finish in a share of 81st place.

Competing as an individual, Nicole Vivier shot three over in both rounds to finish the day in a share of 69th place.

The Mustangs return to the course with another 8 a.m. start on Tuesday for the final round of the Icon Invitational.
