Women's golf wins Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's golf won the Trinity Forest Invitational by five strokes on Tuesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club.

SMU came into the day with a seven-stroke lead over No. 2 Houston. The Mustangs tied a program record with a 12-under day, led by all five Mustangs posting a score of par or better. The final total of 24-under par also set a program record, breaking the previous record set earlier this season at the Hurricane Invite. The win gave the Mustangs their second victory of the season and third total of the Lauren Mason era.

Ellie Szeryk tied for the fourth-lowest score ever by a Mustang as she posted a seven-under par day. The junior finished the tournament at 11-under carding two below par or better in every round. She took home third-place honors.

Mackenzie Lee posted her sixth top-10 finish in eight tournaments on the season with a tied for fifth place showing. Lee shot 70 in the final two rounds to end the event at four-under par.

Ashley Chow recorded her best finish as a Mustangs with a t-10 place finish. Chow's tournament was highlighted by a 67 in round two.

Yunxuan (Michelle) Zhang finished in the top-20 for the fifth time in her young career. The freshman carded a 70 on the final day to finish in a tie for 20th. Also in 20th place, Lauren Miller recorded her best finish as a Mustang, shooting par or better in each of the three rounds.

Competing as an individual, Nicole Vivier finished in a tie for 75th.

The Mustangs return to the course next week for The Briars Creek tournament hosted by College of Charleston March 13-14.
