SMU Equestrian Announced As Top Seed At 2023 Nationals

OCALA, Florida - SMU was announced as the top seed for the 2023 National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championships on Tuesday, the NCEA announced.

SMU earns the No. 1 seed for the first time in program history. The 2023 National Championships are set for April 13-15 in Ocala at the World Equestrian Center.

Auburn and Oklahoma State follow SMU at No. 2 and No. 3, while TCU is the fourth seed. Texas A&M stands at No. 5, and Georgia follows at No. 6. Rounding out the top eight are South Carolina and Baylor.

The Mustangs are 10-1 on the year. Seventeen riders have collected Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) accolades, and five Mustangs have earned NCEA Rider of the month honors.

The Mustangs will be chasing the first national title in program history. SMU is coming off its fourth consecutive conference championship and second straight ECAC title in 2021-22, in a year that saw four NCEA All-America selections.

SMU capitalized off its momentum from the 2020-21 season last year, making it to the national semifinal meet for the second consecutive season. In 2020-21, the program saw many firsts and records broken on its run to the 2020-21 national championship meet. The Mustangs return all but two starters from last season's semifinal team.

SMU is set to face eighth-seeded Baylor on April 13th in Ocala, Florida.

Remarkable progress for the team in a relatively short timeframe. Pony Up, literally!
