Gwin Named NCEA Head Coach Of The Year

DALLAS (SMU)– After leading SMU to its first national title in program history, Carol Gwin has been named the 2023 National Collegiate Equestrian Association's Head Coach of the Year, the organization announced Wednesday.

In her ninth season at SMU, Gwin produced the most successful season of her career as the Mustangs finished the season with the best record in program history at 13-1, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home with a 9-1 record against ranked opponents.

The Mustangs were ranked No. 1 in the NCEA Dual Discipline Poll for 23 consecutive weeks. Gwin mentored nine All-America selections and four National Riders of the Month. Seventeen different Mustangs claimed Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors in the regular season. Gwin's squad swept the MOP awards at Nationals and had eight All-Championship Team selections.

A conference coach of the year three times, Gwin receives National Coach of the Year honors for the first time.
