Mykkanen joins the Mustangs with a focus on the 200 and 500 freestyles. He comes from a family of swimmers with both collegiate and Olympic experience. In Club Swim, he participated in the Birmingham Swim League — he was the two-time Southeastern Champion in both the 500-yard freestyle and the 1650-yard freestyle.

Great to see a So Cal athlete added to the roster. Given the popularity of SMU as a destination for California kids and the wealth of high level high school / club aquatics programs and talent in the state, would be great to see some of those kids choosing to swim at SMU.
