From SMUMustangs.com:

Mustangs Fall In Season Opener At No. 9 TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team fell 1-0 in its season opener against No. 9 TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

Graduate senior Samantha Estrada totaled six saves in a 90-minute effort for SMU, who is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Estrada's fourth save knocked TCU's shot from sneaking in the right corner, preventing the Horned Frogs from doubling the lead.

Sophomores Kaya Lee, Eliana Salama and senior Mackenzie Rudden were the Mustangs' shot-takers in the first 45 minutes of play. Rudden's attempt was tipped off the post by TCU's Lauren Kellett, just missing the net.

TCU's Gracie Brian tapped a deflected ball into the goal for the only score of the game in the 22nd minute. SMU (0-1) went on to survive the other six TCU (1-0) shots of the first half.

The Mustangs' defensive stance withstood 10 more shots in the second half, including five TCU shots-on-goal.

SMU finished with 10 shots on the night. Four of the Mustangs' shots-on-goal came in the second half, putting pressure on TCU's defense. SMU sent six shots in the final 20 minutes, forcing Kellett to make three saves to prevent an equalizer.

SMU returns to the pitch next Thursday for its home opener at Washburne Stadium versus Houston Christian University. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and can be streamed through ESPN+.
