Ponies Set School Record in 400 Free Relay

For Immediate Release
Saturday, March 20, 2004

The SMU women's swimming & diving team set a new school record in the 400 meter free relay Saturday as the Mustangs finished 18th at the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championship in College Station, Texas. The event took place at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M. Auburn repeated as team champions, winning the championship with 569 points.

SMU's Georgina Lee captured her first of two All-American showings on the night taking seventh in the 200 meter butterfly with a time of 2:08.11. The senior's time was eight hundredths of a second off the school record in the event which Lee holds (2:08.03). Georgia's Mary Decenza won the event with setting a new NCAA record with a time of 2:06.02.

The Mustangs ended the night earning All-American honors in the 400 meter free relay with a school record time of 3:41.63, finishing 10th in the event. The Mustangs school record time bettered the old mark of 3:42.82 set in 1999. The record setting squad Saturday night included Georgina Lee, Leane Darling, Laura Pomeroy and Celina Lemmen. For Lee, the two All-American showings on Saturday gave the departing senior 22 All-American honors for her career, finishing three shy of the all-time All-American mark set by former SMU great Martina Moravcova. Georgia won the 400 meter free relay with a NCAA, American and U.S. Open record time of 3:35.14.
