SMU Forces Shutout On Tulsa In 0-0 Draw

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team forced its second shutout of the season in its 0-0 draw against Tulsa at Washburne Stadium on Thursday.

Tatum Sutherland clocked a 90-minute performance in her first start of the season, tallying four saves to secure a clean sheet for the Mustangs.

SMU's shutout versus Tulsa marks the second of the season after defeating Oklahoma State 1-0 at Washburne Stadium on Sept. 10.

SMU, who is receiving votes, moves to 5-2-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play. The Mustangs currently sit in second place of the AAC's West Division.

SMU has now allowed one or fewer goals in 21 of 27 matches played under Head Coach Nicole Nelson – 10 of which being shutouts.

The Mustangs' backline – led by 90-minute performances from Abby Dermott and former AAC Defensive Players of the Week Peyton Annen (Sept. 11) and Mayu Inokawa (Aug. 28) – helped allow only four or fewer shots on goal for the fourth time this season.

The Mustangs doubled the Golden Hurricane in shots taken (12-6) and tripled in corner kick opportunities (6-2).

SMU returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Billy J. Murphy Athletic Complex to take on Memphis in a rematch of last season's AAC Conference Tournament Championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and can be livestream on ESPN+.
