No. 3 SMU Earns Three Awards in Final AAC Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas (SMU/The American) - Freshman Niv Berkovitz garnered Rookie of the Week honors from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) on Thursday, in a release by the conference.

This is the first time Berkovitz has won the award in his collegiate career. He was also selected as the AAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season.

Fellow teammates Alexander Petraeus and Mads Westergren received weekly recognition from the conference, notching spots on the Honor Roll section in the final weekly conference awards of the year.

The awards come after the No. 3 Mustangs wrapped up the outright AAC title on Wednesday evening, SMU defeating Temple 2-1 at Washburne Stadium. This gave head coach Kevin Hudson his fourth conference title in his nine seasons as leader of the Mustangs.

This gives the Mustangs 19 weekly honors this season.

SMU begins play in the AAC Championship by hosting the semifinal match on Thursday, Nov. 9 against the winner of USF and Memphis. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. and the game will be livestreamed on ESPN+. Washburne Stadium will serve as the hosting site for the semifinals (Nov. 9) and championship match (Nov.12).
