Ben Stoddard Named Among The Best 2023 Assistant Coaches

Tallahassee, Fla. (SMU/College Soccer News) — Associate men's soccer coach and recruiting coordinator Ben Stoddard has been recognized as one of the top assistant coaches in the country, as announced by College Soccer News.

College Soccer News annually recognizes assistant coaches across the country who excel in their coaching roles. The outlet takes into consideration team success on the field of play during the 2023 season with additional weight given to consistent success over several seasons.

This is Stoddard's second consecutive year being recognized as one of the top assistant coaches in the nation, with Top Drawer Soccer awarding him the accolade for 2022-23.

Under the coaching staff this year, the Mustangs advanced to the NCAA Round of Sixteen and won the AAC regular season outright. The Mustangs had four players named to All-American teams and two listed as MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalists. Additionally, five Mustangs earned All-East Region honors.

American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year Mads Westergren was also drafted by FC Dallas in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.

This was Stoddard's sixth season with SMU. Most recently, Stoddard and the rest of the SMU coaching staff were recognized as the 2023 American Athletic Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
