Men Swimmers Travel, Drop Meet to future ACC Member

Competition will be steep for our Swimmers in our new Conference.
 
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The SMU men's swimming and diving traveled to North Carolina on Tuesday where Jack Hoagland remains undefeated in the 1000 free for the Mustangs, with SMU also earning a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Graduate transfer Danny Kovac made his debut for SMU in the water, assisting Russell Exum, Colin Feehery and Lance Butler to a time of 1:30.35 in the 200 medley relay. Kovac also secured the Mustangs a second-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.00.

Christopher Mykkanen won the 100 free with a time of 45.08. Teammate Sage Sungail finished .32 seconds behind him to come in fourth.

Colin Feehery touched the wall in 55.65 in the 100 breast to place second.

Hoagland earned another win in the 200 back, finishing the race in 1:47.23.

In the diving well, John Dymond and Ethan Hunter traveled to represent the Mustangs in the 3-meter contest. Dymond finished third with a final score of 312.15 and Hunter followed just behind him with 289.25 for fourth place.

For the final race of the day in the dual meet, Mykkanen, Butler, Hoagland and Sungail combined for second in the 400 free relay with a final time of 2:58.50.

Final Scores: UNC defeated SMU, 184-114.

Up Next: The Mustangs will continue their road stretch and travel to College Station on Friday, Feb. 2 to take on Texas A&M.
