Drew Morris Named AAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas (SMU/The American) — Drew Morris was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

The conference honor follows a 4-3 win over then-No. 17 Vanderbilt in SMU's 2024 home opener, with Morris deciding the match with her three set thriller.

In the match, Morris took on Highland Park native No. 24 Bridget Stammel. Morris won in three sets, winning the first 7-5 and the third 7-6.

Morris and senior Maja Makoric also paired to defeat their Commodores opponents in doubles play — Holly Staff and Amy Stevens — in a 6-3 match.

This is the Houston native's third AAC Player of the Week honor, with her winning the accolade twice in 2023.

SMU travels to Austin to participate in the Texas Regional ITA Kickoff, with play beginning on Friday, Jan. 26 against Florida State at 3 p.m.

The Mustangs will then take on either No. 6 Texas or Baylor on Saturday, depending on results.
