Mustangs Fall 4-2 In Battle At No. 7 USC

LOS ANGELES (SMU) – The SMU men's tennis team fell 4-2 in a hard-fought match with No. 7 USC at the David X. Marks Tennis Complex on Saturday.

"I am really proud of this team," said Head Coach Grant Chen. "We went out on the road against a top-10 team and competed for three hours. We left everything we had out on the courts. We look forward to another opportunity to compete Sunday against a very good Texas Tech team."

The Mustangs move to 4-2 on the season, with the Trojans moving to 2-0.

The Trojans captured the match's doubles point by taking courts one and two.

Freshman Trevor Svajda rallied from down 4-1 to win a 7-6 tiebreaker in his first set against Stefan Dostanic. The San Diego native went on to defeat Dostanic in straight sets (7-6, 6-2) to remain undefeated on the season (5-0).

Sophomore Jerry Barton earned the Mustangs' second singles victory, defeating Lodewijk Weststrate in straight sets (7-6, 6-3). Barton's win closed the once 3-0 Trojan lead to just one with two matches yet to play.

USC would go on to take the match's clinching point.
