Women's tennis ranked No. 37 by ITA

Mustangs ranked No. 37 by ITA

TEMPE, Arizona (SMU/Intercollegiate Tennis Association) — For the first time this season, the SMU women's tennis team is ranked within the top 50 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles and doubles poll — the ITA announced on Wednesday.

As a team the Mustangs came in ranked No. 37, with pair Taylor Johnson and Lana Mavor jumping seven spots in the doubles rankings for No. 50.

The duo won all three of their doubles matches during the most recent week of competition.

Against UTA on Tuesday, they paired for a 6-4 set win over UTA's Tara Gorinsek and M. Manyoma-Velasquez.

Johnson and Mavor then clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs against American Athletic Conference foe Wichita State, beating Xin Tong [deleted] and Natsumi Kurahashi — 7-5.

Most recently against LSU, they also won their doubles match — 6-4.

Overall, Mavor and Johnson boast an 8-2 record including one win over a nationally ranked pair.

SMU is currently 4-4 overall, with three wins at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.

Up next:
SMU hosts Denver in the Match of the Month on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Mustangs will then transition to take on FIU Sunday, with first serve set for 11 a.m.
