No. 60 SMU Battles, Falls 4-2 At No. 17 Baylor

WACO, Texas (SMU) – The No. 60 SMU men's tennis team fell 4-2 against No. 17 Baylor at the Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday.

"I am so proud of the program and progress the guys have made since the beginning of the season," said Head Coach Grant Chen. "Despite dropping a tough doubles point, the guys did a remarkable job competing in singles."

SMU moves to 8-5 on the season, with Sunday's match with Baylor marking the Mustangs' fourth top-25 opponent of the year.

Sunday's dual match with the Bears saw two SMU singles wins over ranked opponents and four three-set matches with score differentials no greater than two.

Trevor Svajda earned SMU's first singles win of the afternoon, beating No. 35 Tadeas Paroulek in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) on court one.

Liam Krall also picked up a ranked win over No. 75 Devin Badenhorst on court three (6-4, 5-7, 6-4). Krall and Badenhorst split the first two sets, with Krall taking the third set to close SMU within one.

With the Mustangs' trailing 3-2, Maks Silagy and Eric Hadigian both battled into their third set, with Baylor's Oskar Brostrom Poulsen pulling ahead of Silagy to win a third-set tiebreaker (4-6, 6-4, 6-6(5)) to clinch the match.

SMU returns home for its February Match of the Month versus No. 52 Arkansas on Wednesday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex. Wednesday's dual match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. (CT).
