Men's tennis earns road win at No. 57 Cornell

Mustangs Earn Road Win At No. 57 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (SMU) – The SMU men's tennis team defeated No. 57 Cornell 5-2 at the Reis Tennis Center on Saturday.

"Today was an incredible road match," said Head Coach Grant Chen. "The guys really battled through tough conditions to get a good team win. They played with high energy and tremendous focus. We have been focusing on doubles and it showed."

With the win, SMU improves to 9-6 on the season.

The Mustangs captured the first point of the day by taking the team doubles point.

Trevor Svajda and Louis Cloud teamed up for the duo's third win of the season, defeating Cornell's Petar Teodorovic and Eric Verdes (6-4). Julian Steinhausen and Maks Silagy would go on to secure the point for SMU in their 6-3 victory over Samuel Paquette and Radu Papoe to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.

Svajda put SMU up 2-0 with his win over No. 17 Radu Papoe (6-1, 6-3). Svajda's victory marks the freshman's second win over ranked opponents in the Mustangs' last three matches.

Maks Silagy got the Mustangs up 3-1, beating Felipe Pinzon in straight sets (6-1, 7-5) for his ninth singles win of the spring.

Liam Krall clinched the match for the Mustangs in his 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Petar Teodorovic. Krall's win marked his eighth in singles on the season.

Jerry Barton also picked up a singles win, defeating Aman Sharma (7-6(10), 7-6(9)) for SMU's final point of the day.

SMU returns home on Mar. 10 for a dual match with Cal at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex beginning at 12 p.m. (CT).
