No. 55 SMU Sweeps Butler 7-0

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's tennis team swept Butler 7-0 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

SMU improves to 11-6 on the season and 8-1 at home with its victory over Butler. The Mustangs have now won three consecutive matches.

SMU has now swept its opponent in seven matches this season.

SMU jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking the team doubles point. The senior duo of Callaway Clark and Liam Krall teamed up for the third time this season to defeat Butler's Nicholas Shirley and Patrick Joss (6-1). No. 44-ranked Adam Neff and Huntley Allen went on to clinch the doubles point in their 6-2 win over Alvaro Huete and Rahulniket Konakanchi to mark the duo's fifth victory of the year.

Louis Cloud gave SMU a 2-0 lead over Butler with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Butler's Rahulniket Konakanchi. With the win, Cloud improved his season singles record to 7-3.

Eric Hadigian responded with another convincing win, defeating Patrick Joss (6-1, 6-1) to put SMU up 3-0.

Jerry Barton clinched the Mustangs' win on court three. The sophomore beat Nicolas Arts (6-2, 6-3) for his third consecutive singles victory.

"It was a good team win for the guys," said Barton. "There were some tough conditions with the windy day. Butler has a good team with a lot of Dallas area guys, so it was good to get started with a solid doubles performance and have it carry over to singles."

Julian Steinhausen added on to SMU's total with a straight sets win over Borja Miralles (6-3, 7-5) on court four. Krall earned his 10th victory of the spring on court one against Alvaro Huete (6-4, 4-6, 10-6) to give SMU's its sixth point of the afternoon. Alex Stafford then capped off the Mustangs' sweep with another third-set tiebreaker win (7-5, 4-6, 11-9) over Aidan William.

SMU continues its home-stretch on Saturday with a dual match against Wisconsin. Saturday's match at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. (CT).
