SMU equestrian named 2-Seed for NCEA Championships

WACO, Texas (NCEA/SMU) – The defending National Champion SMU equestrian team was announced as the No. 2 seed for the 2024 National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships on Tuesday.

The Mustangs will face No. 7 seed South Carolina for the first time this season in the first round on April 18 at 1:30 p.m. (CT) at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida.

SMU earned the program's first NCEA national title last season with an 11-8 victory over No. 2 Auburn.

SMU has reached the championship meet of the NCEA's national tournament two times in the last four seasons.

The Mustangs enter the NCEA Championships 9-4 overall, including seven wins over ranked opponents and a perfect 7-0 home record.

Fourteen Mustangs have earned a total of 37 Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors this season, with three riders being selected for a total of six NCEA Rider of the Month awards.
