In Waco, the Men beat Georgia Tech 4-0 and advance. They go against Baylor, I believe.

Baylor Bears Win NCAA National Tennis Title

Postby MrMustang1965 » Wed May 26, 2004 1:56 am

Matt Knoll's Baylor Bears have done something no other tennis team at the Waco, Texas University has done before - win a national championship.

Knoll, now in his eighth year as the head coach at Baylor, saw his Bears complete their run to the title with a 4-0 sweep of UCLA. The Bears, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 team in the country, breezed through the tourney, sweeping all of their matches but one, a 4-1 win over Rice in the round of 16. They defeated Manhattan 4-0, Southern Methodist 4-0, Rice 4-1, Ohio State 4-0, USC 4-0 and UCLA 4-0 to capture the title.

In Tuesday's championship match, the Bears picked up the doubles point by winning the matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, then clinched the national title by taking the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches. It was Matias Martin's 6-3, 6-2 upset of UCLA's Chris Lam at No. 3 singles that clinched the title.

The Bears finished the season at a school-best 32-2 and on a school-record 24-match winning streak. The Bears have thrived under Knoll, going 174-48 (.784) under his leadership. Since his first year when the Bears finished eighth in the Big 12, Knoll has led the Bears to no worse than a second-place finish.

Knoll, a former Pittsburg High School and Washburn University tennis player, still has roots in the Pittsburg area. His mother, Terre, as well as his aunt and uncle, J.T. and Linda, still live in Pittsburg.
