Interesting!

Sam Hafertepe Jr. (Sunnyvale, TX)

The 18-year-old kicked off the 2004 season by capturing his first career Sprint Car feature victory in the Gulf South Region opener at Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA, on March 13. Sam then declared intentions to pursue Brodix Rookie of the Year honors on the National Tour, where he has posted three top-five runs. A recent high school grad ranked eighth in points, Sam will mix racing with the college life when the fall semester begins at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas.

Welcome, Sam.

Good luck on the speedway and on the hilltop.

You know the NCAA is probably missing out on the current NASCAR Craze. The SMU Ford Mustang, taking on the UH Mercury Couger, you get the picture. Have students drive. UT tries to sign Dale Earnhart, III while SMU goes after Dale Jarrett, IV. Might be a money sport that we could actually do well in.

Just as long as they don't try to turn Ford Stadium into the racetrack!
