I remember one punk rock party in particular our freshman year in Boaz Hall, it was awesome. I guess that type of drunken party would not happen in a freshman dorm anymore.

Am I the only former McElvaney resident, here? Surely, not. It was the biggest dorm in the freshman quad. Any way, post-McElvaney, I did my mandatory time in the fraternity house and then the joy of apartment living and losing security deposits (f'ing margarita machines).

Another Boaz alum here. Can't say it was that great, but I definitely learned alot. Some fond memories include the funny way the bathroom transformed to meet our needs. The 4 stalls were designated as "Pissers" and "$hitters" to cut down on people peeing on the seats. Also, someone printed up a collage of pictures entitled "Porn of the Week" that was taped inside each stall.

I also lived in Shuttles for a semester and spent a summer in Moore Hall. Moore was great in terms of the room itself. Had a kitchen, full bath, cable, etc.

I think it is unrenovated....so don't expect it to be the nicest.

I loved living in Boaz Hall. It truly is part of the college experience to live in a freshman dorm. Of course it is not perfect but it can be lots of fun and is certaintly educational.

I was on 4th floor McElvaney, and nobody gets back their security deposits at signature point.

In the first floor of Boaz they developed window diving into a fine art. Of course you had to avoid being too drunk in order to avoid knocking yourself out, or landing in the ivy bushes.

I've never seen an ivy bush...are they very big?

I guess that beats guys from my first home away from home, Morrison Hall, tie-ing surgical hose in a loop around a couple of trees near the short end of the L that Morrison makes. Both sides of that loop were routed through the left, and right pants legs of a pair of blue jean cutoffs. Can you spell CATAPULT? BTW, those trees are huge now from what they were back then.

Anyway, a large number of water balloons were lofted in the direction of the other side matching dorms, especially the opposing L dorm. McIntosh comes to mind? A few balloons reached their mark knocking out 2nd, and 3rd floor windows, and scaring the opponents hanging out of nearby middle hallway windows. As an engineering student, I was amazed at
how far a fragile water balloon could be launched.

Not sure what the war was about. Maybe it was from the orientation organized water balloon fight from a day or 2 before. I was merely an observer. The cannoneers got into big trouble as I was leaving the scene.

McGinnis was a dump when I lived there (they ahve since rennovated). I got off campus as quickly as I could - living in SMU Apartments on Binkley by the intramural fields (Rent was $400 for those things in 1992 - split 2 ways and that is a cool $200 a month - not a bad deal).

Westdale Oaks (The Willowick) and Newport on the other side of Central were ok - for Jr/Sr years, but they have really gone downhill since the mid-90s. I guess you get what you pay for . . .

Maybe they removed the ivy bushes, but they came up almost to the windows. They also cushioned the fall of one guy who was drunk and fell out of the third floor window. And lastly they provided protection to the SMU gardening staff members who decided it was a great place to take a nap. Unfortunately, there were some guys on the fourth floor who decided to dump cold water on the poor soul. But back to the window diving, one fellow was extremely loaded and decided he could execute the delicate leap. Unfortunately, his knees caught the heater and he was flipped into the ivy bushes. He rolled out onto the ground, came back to try again. You guessed it, this time his shoulders caught the bottom of the window and he was back in the ivy bushes. And so it went, until finally in a moment of frustration he thought he could put his fist through the headboard on one of the beds. Bad idea. He spent the night in the health center with a severely sprained fist and cuts all over his body. And then he woke up with a hangover on top of it.
