Modano, Stars agree to five-year deal

Mike Modano has accepted a five-year offer from the Dallas Stars, worth $17.25 million.

TSN has learned that he will earn $4.25 million in the first three years, and $2.25 million in the final two years. The deal also includes a no-trade clause.

''After a whirlwind day, it brings me great pleasure to announce that we were able to work out a contract to keep Mike Modano in Dallas for the next five years,'' said Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong. ''He's a great player and has been a wonderful ambassador for hockey in Dallas. This new contract practically ensures that Mike will retire a Dallas Star, and we are thrilled that he will be back with us.''

The 35-year-old Modano has career totals of 458 goals, 648 assists, 1106 points in 1101 games - all Stars' records.

During the 2003-04 season, Modano recorded 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points with 46 penalty minutes in 76 games.
