Because our university is made up of country club kids :)...not as competitive as D1 bball and fball. We seem to do a good job at recruiting internationally in these sports as well. Gives these kids a chance to live in the US and compete...especially in tennis and swimming.

I would agree with Pony_Fan and add some other reasons.

In the non-revenue sports, SMU competes on a more level field because players are not being paid. The inherent advantages of our school, our location and our reputation make us an appealing choice.

Also factor in these 'athletes' as a group are more concerned with their education and pursuing a degree. Advantage SMU.

That is true in swimming and it has kept us competitive, despite not having Division 1A facilities. BTW, there was been a tradition of foreign swimmers at SMU since the sixties, especially South Africian. Great guys.

Recently, Sweden, Slovakia, Switzerland, UK, etc. With a new Natatorium we can ensure long term success for the Men and Women. The ladies have been the most competitive lately.

Also, we have got to catch up to Men's Soccer.

The SMU equestrian team spent the weekend in College Station finishing fourth overall in a tournament.
The Mustangs had individual riders placing first, second and third.

And I ask again as I did in the last thread that posted this.....How many teams were in the competition. If only 4 that is not good. The more there were the better, but it would be fairly decent of the reporters to mention how many participants there were.

A&M webiste has us 5th out 12 teams...........not sure who to believe........not even myself.........................

Thank you for at least trying to find out how many. 4th or 5th out of 12 is much better than 4th or 5th out of 4 or 5.
